Hi Guys
I am having trouble understanding the amount of places you can setup alerts in Backup Exec 2010. I have setup my list of recipients and server settings, tests are working fine.
Can someone please explain what the difference between setting up the alerts within the backup job properties, assigning recipients to alert categories or going into Configure alert categories and ticking the send notifications to selected recipients?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards
Craig

First, a notification method
First, a notification method is configured such as MAPI, SMTP etc...
Then, recipients are created...
If you choose notification from backup job properties, this is being done at the job level...
Whereas, if you do so from either assigning recipients to alert categories or by doing so from the Alerts tab, this is being done globally
When the You configure the
When the You configure the notification in the Alert categories the users would get a notification when every the particular alert is generated , where as the when you configure notification in the backup job then the recepient would get a notification with the status of that particular job and it can also include the job log.
So when you enable receipent in the job properties he would only get alerts for the that particular job where is you configure notification in the alert catalogiers he would get notification for all the jobs as wll as notification for the alerts which are not related to backup job.
