Backup Exec 2010 correct setup / licencing - Exchange 2010 Cluster on Hyper-V

Created: 20 Jul 2010 | 1 comment

Hi Guys,

i´ve search across the forums, but did not find a sufficent answer.
We´re planing to migrate to Exchange 2010 and use the setup shown in the attachment 2 times, spread across two locations.
2 x Hyper-V Server as the Host, on each a CAS/HT Server + the 1 DAG Mailbox Servers.

My question is here:
- Does it really make sense to backup the Hyper-V Host, which would require 1 BE Win Agent (No Hyper-V Core)
- Do we need for each Exchange Server a separate Exchange Agent + BE Win Agent?

Any suggestions, answers would be apprecitated.

Cheers,
Markus

Depends how critical it is for you. If you want to backup the host then you have to install the remote agent on it. If you want to backup the vms on this then you have to purchase the hyper v license and that license should be installed on BE server

To backup the exchange you should have exchange license with you. Each exchange server requires a license. The license will be installed on the BE server and remote agent needs to be installed on the exchange server to back it up.
