This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi there,

So reading up on the migration/upgrade from 2010 R3 to 2012, I see they keep referring to a "Backup Exec Support Tool" that will allow you to do a "Dry Run" on your current production environment and see what is neccesary and what is not in place before you do the actual migration, however this tool was replaced by "Symhelp" tool and this tool doesnt seem to have a "Dry Run" functionality.

Please advise what I can use to do a dry run of current environment and what would be the best and give me the best/most accurate results.

When doing the upgrade it runs through a process of checking your environment for upgrade compatibility. Anything that doesn't comply is going to show up as yellow/red, and these need to be addressed.

Hello Kaboom,
SymHelp has the option to run pre-install check which will give the results about current production environment and see what is neccesary and what is not in place before you do the actual migration.

Under Installed Product select Symantec Backup Exec and then on the right side under "Selected Product Scan" select "Pre-install check". Refer to the following technote (screenshots too) which gives this information. : Using Symantec Help (SymHelp)

Also the SymHelp report gives you Backup Exec 2012 Pre-Migration Report which gives following information:

* Provides list of changes to expect when upgrading to Backup Exec 2012.
* Only works for Symantec Backup Exec 2010 & 12.5 products and not the System Recovery products.

Refer to technote : Symantec Help (SymHelp) Diagnostic Reports

As you are upgrading to BE 2012 you may also want to refer to the following technote : Information on the Job and Policy migration process when upgrading to Backup Exec 2012.

Hope this piece of Information Helps you... and if it does then mark this response as Solution....!!!
