This issue has been solved. See solution.

We are experiencing the following problems when attempting to restore backups set:

1 - When catalogueing the backup it tells me physical volume library not found

My second problem

1 - When looking at backup files, it comes up as unknown media

When going through backup logs, the backup did completed successfully.

Hi Shaun,

Welcome to another Saffer =)

First thing's first...if Windows doesn't see your device in Device Manager, then BE won't see it correctly. Even if it shows in BE's Devices tab, but not Windows Device Manager it's not going to work. If this is the case, you can restart the BE services after doing a device rescan in Device Manager.

If this doesn't solve it, turn the device off, and then on again. Download the latest drivers for BE from the Symantec website, and then run the Device Configuration Wizard and install the Symantec drivers. Try a job again.

Failing that, completely uninstall the device as follows: uninstall the device from BE; uninstall the device from Windows Device Manager and turn it off and disconnect it; restart the server and allow to boot into Windows before verifying it doesn't show up in the OS or BE. Once done, shut down the server, reconnect the device and start it up; start up Windows, make sure it shows up in DM and then reinstall the Symantec drivers from within BE.

If this doesn't work, see if you get hold of your manufacturer's diagnostic utility and run it against the device to check for errors. SCSI cables can also cause issues, as do SCSI cards (it should be connected to a SCSI card and NOT a RAID controller!).

As for the backup files...are you talking about B2D files? Have you inventoried them and then catalogged them?
