Weekly backup jobs to tape

Question: When a tape becomes full and the 'Appendable Until' column indicates "Not appendable (Media full)" and the 'Overwrite Protection Until' date is set for a date in November, will this tape only become Overwriteable once the date in November rolls around?

Is there a way to make this tape Overwriteable now - without having to replace the tape?
