Hi hope you can help

Running 2010 on SBS 2008 server.

Backup up to 3TB USB 3.0 Drive.

Jobs randomly fail with the following.

Backup- SERVER1 Unable to attach to \\SERVER1\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group.

V-79-57344-33932 - Unable to attach to a resource.  Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.

V-79-57344-65055 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\SERVER1\Microsoft Information Store\Second Storage Group". Advanced Open File Option used: No.

Snapshot provider error (0xE000FE1F): The device cannot be found.

Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

You can then run the same job straight after and it will work fine ?

The one thing we have done recently is move the Exchange database from one drive to another and I cant help but feel this had something to do with it as it was fine before.

Any help greatly recvd

Have you tried recreating the job?

...otherwise deselect Exchange in the current selection list, close it off. Reopen the selection list and reselect Exchange.

Thanks!

Many thanks PKH and Craig V

I have created a new job 3 times now and also deselect reselected exchange.

And the odd thing is it will either fail on the first attempt or run fine for 2 nights and then fail 1 night and then work the next

Its very strange.

Hello,
the error specified seems to be related to snapshot provider, please find the related article:

Ref:
The error message "0xe000fe1f - The device cannot be found" occur while performing a local or remote backup using Backup Exec Advanced Open File Option (AOFO).
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH55835

Additionally please look for any events related to VSS provider in the event in can be related to space required for the snapshot or inability to snap multiple resources at one go.

you may change the backup job properties to use Microsoft VSS provider and re-run the job.

Regards,
S
