Backup Exec 2010 upgrade to 2012

Created: 03 Dec 2013 | 1 comment

Hi,

I have BE 2010. Support has already expired and my vendor told me to renew the support if I wanted to upgrade to BE 2012.

1. Is this true I can upgrade to BE 2012 if I have a valid support subscription?

2. Can I do a fresh installion of BE 2012 on a new server with a new OS? Or do I need to install BE2010  then upgrade to BE 2012?

3. Do I still need the previous BE2010 license or can I use the license of BE 2012?

4. Where do I get the license file, since this is an upgrade? As I understand if this is a new purchase the SLA file will be sent via email or can be downloaded on my symantec account.

Appreciate if anyone can point me to upgrade manual doing a fresh installation on Back up Exec 2012.

Thanks,

Paul

BE 2012 uses a different set of licence keys from BE 2010.  You cannot use your BE 2010 keys for BE 2012.  They will not work.  If you have a current support licence, then you can upgrade for free, i.e., you can get a new set of licence keys for BE 2012.  You can get the new BE 2012 keys either by contacting Symantec Licencing dept. or logging in to the licencing portal (http://licensing.symantec.com)

To upgrade to BE 2012, you can either do an in-place upgrade of your existing BE 2010 or you can do a fresh install of BE 2012.  For the former option, your existing jobs, etc. will be upgraded during the upgrade process.  Before you proceed with your upgrade, do read my article below
