Hi All,

I would like to ask a question on the backup exec licensing if I were to install a cluster-aware Backup Exec 2012 onto a Windows Server 2008 File cluster with a FC connection to a SAN storage and a tape library (2 FC tape drives), how many and what are licenses will i be needing?

I want to install the cluster-aware Backup Exec 2012 to the windows file cluster is to enable the backup direct to the SAN Storage and the FC tape library without going through the network. It will perform a backup to disk then tape out.

Is the below licensing correct,

  • Backup Exec 2012 server license - 2 units
  • Library Expansion Option - 1 unit
  • Enterprise Server Option (Is it needed?)

Many thanks.

Regards,

Joe

You will need 1 LEO license for each of your media servers and you will need ESO to share the tape library between the 2 media servers

Hi Joe,

Since you need to install a full version of Backup Exec on each of the servers in question, you'd need that same # of LEO licenses in order to allow the extra drives to be seen on the media servers.

Thanks!
