Hello Matt,

Exchange database should not be dismounted during backups of Exchange 2003 with BE 2012.

In BE 2012 AOFO option is enabled by default. If Exchange databases are getting dismounted then disable the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) in the backup job properties as backups of Exchange 2003 should not be taken using the AOFO option.

Let us know the result.

Thanks,

...weird. In previous versions I think there is a setting to dismount the Information Store...check to see if this is enabled in your settings.

Although not recommended to be used, AOFO won't be the cause for dismounting your Information Store.

Thanks!
