Hi,

I would like to understand how Backup Exec keeps the information about LTO tapes. Here is my question;

I have a backup on LTO tape, i would like to send this tape to an other facilty/machine. What files do i need to provite ? For example, i have a LTO tape labeled as BCK-0001, if i just copy catalog information and send it with tape, will it be accesible ? If not, what else do i need to provite ?

Regards.

Hi,

You need to backup the Data and Catalogs folders. The Data folder will have bedb.bak which is created every morning at 4am.

If you have the SQL agent on the media server, then you can backup the BEDB using SQL.

Once done, transport the tape to the remote site. Put it into the drive, Inventory and then Catalog it. BE should be installed already, and you can then restore the BEDB and Catalogs files. You need to update the name of the server as per the TN below, assuming the name changes:

Thanks!

If you just want to send the tape to another media server, you don't need to provide anything else. All you need to do at the other media server is to inventory and catalog the tape and it is ready for restore
