Does the 1.2TB consist of very small files and millions of them?  You may be out of luck.  The only thing that wouldd fix that, is NetBackup.  dense file systems cause havoc with traditional backup applications.

The only products that can get around this include Symantec NetBackup FlashBackup technology, EMC Avamar, and EMC Networker SnapImage module.  I believe BackupExec 2012 lost support for Storage Foundation FlashSnap that could aid in this.  BE2010 was the last version to support it.

Perhaps break up the job into smaller pieces, 4x400GB jobs that run concurrently, and backup to disk then to tape?

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
