Backup Exec 2012 on Server2012

Created: 07 Mar 2013 • Updated: 26 Mar 2013 | 5 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am setting up a new Backup Server and have already installed Windows server 2012.  I just found out that symantec does not support this OS yet and was wondering if anyone else out there has had any experience yet with using Backup Exec 2012 on Server 2012?  I can back my OS down to 2008 if necessary, but was wondering if anyone else has tried it on 2012 and had any input so that I might be able to just push forward with the current OS.  Thanks for your input.

Hi,

You can trawl the forums as this question has been asked a couple of times, and nobody seems to have managed to get it to work properly, if at all.

The link below is to the blog which details support for Win2K12 in an upcoming version of BE 2012 which will be in trial in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks!

I believe server 2012 has .net 4 installed by default however be2012 is looking for .net3.5. download iso instalation from microsoft(sw_dvd5_win_svr_std_and_datactr_2012_64bit_english_core_mlf_x18-27588.iso) and

Run the following command from an elevated command prompt on the virtual machine.

DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:d:\sources\sxs

replacing d: with the drive letter you mount the image with.

I am able to backup and restore win 2012 server and sql 2012

I hope this will Help.

...be aware that you are recommending that the OP use an unsupported Symantec solution, so make yourself available for assistance when Symantec reject any queries for help...wink

This will only be supported by a patch for BE 2010 and BE 2012 R2 after the Beta completes...

Thanks!

I talked to the support ppl and they told me basically they dont know when the update for 2012 is going to be ready, but it is in beta right now.  I have applied to become a beta tester, so if they accept me I will be able to at least have the patch and can move forward like that.  In the mean time, I still have my old backup server up and running so I am going to try to install and tinker around with it to see if it will work.  Thanks for the input and I will update my findings.
