Backup Exec 2012 SP3 and Data Domain

Created: 23 Apr 2014 • Updated: 24 Apr 2014 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We have this scenario: Backup Exec 2013 SP3 last fixes installed on phisycal media server, with a local Deduplication Disk Storage (using one Duduplication license) and with a direct attach LTO5 FC Tape

About new implementation, we're studying how we can configure a Data Domain with Backup Exec for explore two possibles scenarios:

1. Use Data Domain as a source disk (FC possibly, or CIFS), where Backup Exec could backup data from it to local Deduplication Disk Storage then to Tape

2. Use Data Domain (if possible) with source disk (for example LSU1 of Data Domain, FC possibly or CIFS), and use always the same Data Domain (LSU2 of Data Domain) as Deduplication Disk Storage destination disk for backup tasks (by moving our deduplication option license from local disks to Data Domain) FC if possibly, or CIFS. This by data domain boost for Backup Exec ds

Could someone help me if it's possible this configuration?

Thank's in advantage, best regards

Don't waste your DD. Use an ordinary disk to house your shares.

Use the DD with Boost as a dedup appliance. You would need to install the DD OST plug-in on the media server

For use Data Domain as a dedup appliance is necessary a particular optional license?

You need the dedup option license on BE which you already have and you must be licensed for Boost on the DD
