Backup exec 2012 _ was uninstalling when power failure accured?

Created: 17 Oct 2012 | 4 comments

Hi all

I need Help.

I installed backup exec small business server 2012 on a sbs 2008 server. I then decided that I will setup a new server with sbs 2011 and will install backup exec 2012 on the new server.

So, what happened next : I uninstalled backupexec 2012 and as it was busy we had a power failure. Now Backupexec cannot be installed, repaired or uninstalled from the windows small business server 2008. My big problem is that I need the sbs 2008 server to be perfect before I migrate the sbs 2008 server to sbs 2011.

No Backup's - Big problem now. In Panic stage? What can I do. I've tried to install sp1a and did nothing. Tried reinstall from cd , usb nothing. Selected uninstall from Control Panel will not work. Tried to repair and it install's everyrhing and when it get's to Backup exec 2012 file it stops and is saying please insert disk.......the same disk that was just used to start the install.

Please help.....

Hello,

Even though this article refers to Backup Exec 12.5 it is still relevant for 2012.

Hi Thank you for the suggestion. I am worried that I will destruy the registry.

I found the error :

FATAL ERROR: Error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package.A program required for this install to complete could not be run.

Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

How do I correct this error, It looks like i have to fix the Windows installer on the Small Business Server 2008.

Can you please send me step by step solution to this problem so that I can repair my Backup exec Small Business server 2012.

Thank you

Hi

Please try below steps,

1 Restart the SBS and when computer boot keep on pressing F8 for advanced boot option and log on with safe mode and then do the following
2. At the command prompt, type msiexec /unregister , and then press ENTER
3. At the command prompt, type msiexec /regserver, and then press ENTER. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to close the command prompt.
4. Remove the software program from Add or Remove Programs.

If not then last option is to remove it manually using the above link given to you earlier and you can backup registry before doing any changes.

Hope that helps

Thanks
