backup exec 8.5
Purchased a official Symantec Backup and recovery 8.5 for Small Business Sever, and it works great! Tested backup and restore. Quick and Easy.
The only problem I have is that the granular online recovery for Exchange give me license issue:
Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery Granular Restore: This version of the software (Small Business Server edition) is not able to read images generated with BSER Server edition. Either create backup images with BSER SBS edition or upgrade this product to the Server version.
Anyone has a solution for this?
My plan is to use Symantec 8.5, and for backup will backup with SBS 2008 with built-in backup system as well.
I do haveother questions?
1) Will Symantec 8.5 SBS edition work with SBS 2011?
2) What advantages I have with SBS 2011 over freshly installed SBS 2008? Can I upgrade from SBS 2008 to SBS 2011?
Regards and Thanks.

Confused -- one problem, two notes (options??)
It lookw like my problem looks more like CraigV resolution. If I do, it puts BRE in evaluation mode. Will that mean it will stop working after 60 days. I need a permanent solution.
Thanks,
I do have two other questions?
1) Will Symantec 8.5 SBS edition work with SBS 2011?
2) What advantages I have with SBS 2011 over freshly installed SBS 2008? Can I upgrade from SBS 2008 to SBS 2011?
Hi,
To answer your questions:
1. No. BE 11d doesn't go further than SBS 2003 which means your version won't support SBS 2011, much less SBS 2008 unfortunately. BE 12.5 would be your best bet, at an absolute minimum, with BE 2012 w/SP1a being the latest and greatest. You need to get to a version that supports your environment. I wouldn't bother with BE 12.5, and would rather consider getting BE 2010 R3 w/SP2 or BE 2012 w/SP1a.
2. Not really a SYmantec forum question, but more of a Microsoft forum question. From my side though, if you want to keep all your settings from your previous OS, an upgrade is always a better way to go. However, if you were experiencing issues for instance with your previous OS, I always do a fresh installation.
Thanks!

Hi,
I regedit, and now gre works fine with exchange, Except, it is now in 60 days evaluation.
I must belief Symantec must have a permament solution.
When 60 day expires I need to re-enter my key, and then it will stop working again.
Thanks,
...maybe consider repairing BE 8.x through Add/Remove Programs, and once done, re-enter the license key. Your best bet here is to look at an upgrade.

Please re-read that article (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH64875), there is already a permanent solution:
Solution:
This issue is resolved in Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5.4.

CraigV,
Is there an offical Symantec document showing what product support what?
I hear many users are using 8.5 with SBS 2003 and 2008. And for now I can say it is working GREAT with SBS 2008.
SBS 2011 still uses Windows Server 2008 as does 2011. Difference is SBS 2011 uses Exchange 2010 vs 2007 for SBS 2008.
I wonder if SBS 2008 can be upgraded to exchange 2010?
Anyone knows if you can upgrade 2008 to 2011?
Thank you all -- this is a great forum.
Wouter: Ignore most of what I stated above...for some reason I thought this was a BE query.
Your other question about upgrading is a Microsoft question. Check their forums!

Hello,
I need a link to download 8.5.5 SBS edition.
Thanks,
The download is the same regardless of the version of Windows. Just go for the server edition download.

On the SBS 2008 I am not seeing Install Backup Exec System Recovery when running download.
get only:
Run Driver Validation
View Readme file
Browse CD
EXIT
ignore above email --- ws suing wrong download!
Hello,
All working excellent, except this morning I can't login to backup exec:
Sysmantec Backup Exec recovery System Receovery
Connecting and retrieving from the backup and recovery service on XXX
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading backup destination information
It is done 95% and hangs permantly.
I did see a pop-up message that there were some problems with nightly backup....
How to fix this?
Couple days ago I deleted using Explorer some old backup files --- is that maybe the cause? How should I delete these files
It also shows no data on Current Threatcon level

They should be deleted via the backup destination section of the BESR UI.
It also shows no data on Current Threatcon level
Does this machine have an internet connection?
You seem to have multiple issues now which are not related to the original issue with GRO. Please start new threads for the new issues with the appropriate subject.

Thanks ---
I did resolve the problem --- system disk backup was setup to include an offsite backup to a WHS server, and lost access to that server causing Backup Exec run to fail with errors. The minute I restored access, Backup connection service started up and current Threatcon started the work again (nothing to do with the Internet, even it said it was)
I deleted the offsite backup option.
STRANGE!!!
Wouter
Good morning,
I upgraded to SBS 2011 and conducting a trial for Backup Exec Receovery 2010.
Here are some my questions:
1) downloaded version 9.0.3.40369 -- I tried to get latest update, but LIVEUPDATE finds nothing. Do we have a download of latest version?
2) when specifying granular restore of sharepoint, it states supports MS Sharepoint Services 2.0 or 3.0 or Sharepoint 2003 or 2007. SBS 2011 has Sharepoint 2010. Do I assume that this version doesn't backup Sharepoint correctly? Or can we get an update that supports 2010 as BER 2010 is suppose to be compatible.
Appreciate your insight.
Regards,
Here is the sharepoint error -- see attachment
1. Here is SP5 which is the latest SP for BESR 2010: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH193127. It requires a reboot.
2. SharePoint 2010 is not supported with BESR 2010 (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137684). You need to upgrade to SSR 2011 where it is supported (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH157280).
Please mark thread as solved if you consider this to have answered your question(s)
Chris,
Why would BER 2010 states to be compatible list, and not support sharepoint? Any idea why on receovery LIVE UPDATE not work.? May it is a trial? If you do a restore, will Sharepoint be corrupted?
I hear conflicts -- if you purchase BER 2010 you get a serial number. Will this work for your server and any hardware upgrades?
Thanks
BESR 2010 says it supports SBS 2011 but there is no support for SharePoint 2010 - to get that you need to upgrade to SSR 2011.
I can't answer why there is no support for SharePoint 2010 when this is included with SBS 2011. In my mind, both or neither should be supported.
Anyway, I think SSR 2011 is your answer if you need support for SharePoint 2010.
You'll need to speak to our licensing team regarding your license-related question. I cannot help with that I'm afraid.

Thanks -- if I use a bare metal restore, will sharepoint be corrupt??
I can't answer that. The bottom line is that it is not supported as it has not been tested.
SSR 2011 is the answer....
