Hi,

I have oen question on windows agent required for Hyper-V VMs. Do I need to buy Windows agent for individual VMs when i buy agent for Hyper-V 2012? Please let me know. Thanks.

Hello Shamee,
No you will not have to buy Remote agents for individual VM when you already have agent for Hypoer-V.
One license of Agent for Hyper-V will allow you to install Remote agent on as many virtual machines you have on that one Hyper-V host.

If you have another Hyper-V host then one more license will be required.

Thanks,

...it is licensed per host for x-amount of VMs, so no. You'd only need agents for applications like Exchange, SQL etc.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have another important question on Backup Exec agent for Hyper-V. Will I be able to backup data (entire hyper-V host and VMs running on that) directly to tape library using Backup Exec Agent for Hyper-V? or do i need any disk storage as backup destination? please confirm as there is no documentation i could find for this.

My setup like this...

Hyper V Host (2008 R2) + VMs

Backup Exec 2012 Server (Physical Server) + Tape Autoloader connected to it

Yes you can.

This configuration is supported.

Nope...dedupe is a disk-based backup technology only.

You can duplicate dedupe data to tape, but this rehydrates it.

Thanks!
