Backup Exec to backup NAS network drive
Hello,
I have a Windows 2003 Server with Backup Exec 11d running on it and doing the job just fine as it's backing up local drives on my server. Today we just setup a NAS Applicance to move some of our data off of the server to and we have mapped the NAS drive letters to our server in hopes to backup the data. I attempted to create a new backup policy today to target the newly presented network drives that are visible and the selection of the mapped drive is greyed out. I'm getting the following messages:
"Selection of this item is dsiabled. Possible Reasons are:
- The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems on the Remote Computer is a previous or imcompatible version.
- A license for the Remote Agent is not installed on the media server.
- You are not authorized to access this item
Possible Solutions are:
- Reinstall the Remote Agent on the Remote Computer.
- Enter a Remote Agent License number on the media server.
- Use a different login account to connect to the remote computer.
Would any one have any ideas what the cause could be of this problem or if what I'm trying to do is even possible? (Backup a mapped network drive that is visible to my W2K3 Server) Could this be a user issue and do I need to create an applicable account that is used on the Backup Exec Management Console on my NAS to allow this to work?
Many thanks for anyone that can assist me with this......
Best Regards,

Backup of mapped network
Backup of mapped network drive is not supported with Backup Exec. Although, you can try adding the NAS server directly under selections through "user defined selections". Create a user defined selection by machine name or IP address of the target server and then try expanding it, provide the logon account credentials with permissions on the share on NAS being backed up. Please note that you will need a license for "Agent for Windows Systems" to backup a remote NAS server. Although, on the NAS box, no software needs to be installed, but a license would be required to backup a remote server.
Please mark it a solution, if this is useful.
Thanks
