Backup exec BMR

hi experts

i have a concerns related to backup exeec BMR option


Blade center

Esxi host


at this point i am able to take the BMR backup of critical machines hosted on Esxi host .

we had a failure of blade center disk group few weeks backup which was recovered

at that stage i dont have ESXi host or blade center server backup as BMR,it is possible

Backup Exec does not protect the operating system of the ESX host itself. 

Typically it does not take long to re-install ESX and even apply the latest update

BTW just for info BMR is a term that means different things to different people. Within Symantec it usually means get your operating system back but any applications and databases inside the operating system that use a special method to back them up (so not just a file system backup) may need a secondary restore job running to retrieve the specific application data.

Also the Symantec product called BMR (instead of the industry term) is a NetBackup related product so if you are referring to this then you are in the wrong forum.

OK so the first line of my previous answer applies:

Backup Exec does not protect the operating system of the ESX host.

Agent for VMware (AVVI) protects the virtual machines themselves but you do have to install the operating system for the host before you can recover the virtual machines
