Backup Exec Catalog and Database Maintenance

Created: 11 Jun 2013 | 1 comment

What are the optimized settings for these two categories in the Options (Tools > Options) in Backup Exec 2010 and 2012?

I took over 4 media servers with all different settings in these tabs and would like to have them uniform.

Catalog settings:

Checked - Request all media in the sequence for catalog operations

Checked - Use storage media-based catalogs

Not Checked - Truncate catalogs after.  What is the best duration to set this to?

Database Maintenance settings:

Checked - Enable Backup Exec database maintenance

What is recommended for the “Delete aged data” section?

Checked -Perform database consistency check

Checked -Save contents of database to the Backup Exec data directory

Checked -Optimize database size

If you have sufficient disk space, you should leave this option unchecked.  If you truncate your catalogs, then you would have to re-catalog your media before you restore from them.

Again, if you have sufficient disk space, leave these settings to the default values.
