I downloaded the 28MB file for Backup Exec drivers, but keep getting an error when saying use Veritas drivers for the Quantum DAT72 SATA internal tape drive. The tape drive appears properly in Device Manager. I have installed BackupExec 10.1 for Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard. The software came with the drive, but it does not recognize the drive! Quantum was not very helpful after over one hour on the phone. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello,

You may refer to the following hardware compatibility list to check if your device is supported

http://support.veritas.com/docs/281670

If it is listed in the compatibility list then install the latest Veritas drivers and then verify results.

Thanks

I looked in the list and found a reference to QUANTUM^DAT^^^^DAT72, which is the drive. When I search for the driver, I am told 0 results are found. Where is the Veritas driver for this device? Thank you.

The SCL lists the Quantum SATA DAT72 and points to http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/285593.htm (dated October 25 2006 )

I had already downloaded and run that file. Then I ran Backup Exec, and used the new device wizard. That returns an error message saying that the driver for the Quantum cannot be loaded. Is there any way to just force it to use a generic DAT72 driver?

Couple of things you can do

1) Run TapeInst and tell it to remove all devices, then boot the server and ru n it again.

if that fails

2) Load the mfg driver and verify that NTBackup sees and acces the drive OK, then run the hardware wizard and tell it to use existing drivers

Very strange. Sorry to be back. When I run the device wizard, I see a Quantum device with a Veritas driver of 04mmdat.sys, but it says state is unknown. I cannot get rid of this screen. I followed the suggestion of using the snapin for MMC. It spins the tape in the drive, and shows the information on the tape. However, there is no entry for Physical Location. I have tried to delete the Veritas drivers, but the result is the same. When I run NT Backup, it sees the tape drive. Any idea where the problem resides?

Arthur

Something similar happened to a customer of mine. Finally we found out that the problem was in the SATA port configuration, that was in RAID mode in the machine's bios. Have a look at that.
