Backup Exec - Duplicate to tape attached to secondary media server
Created: 13 Nov 2012 | Updated: 13 Nov 2012
Hi all,
Do you know whether it is possible to duplicate a backup to a secondary BE media server locally attached tape in a CAS environment (BE2012)?
Don't think this is relevant, but on the first media server, the backup is performed on disk and there is no dedupe in place.
Thanks in advance,
Giulio

If you use Deduplication pon
If you use Deduplication pon both media servers and then use Optimized Duplication within a Private Cloud configuration you shoudl be ale to do it as
Backup to Dedup on Server A
Optimized Duplication fro Dedup folder on Server A to Dedup folder on Server B
Duplicate to tape from Dedup folder on Server B to Tape drive on Server B
There are a few ways to configure private cloud - info here

Note when reading the information in that link bear in mind it is written for an ISP/Managed Service implementation as such whenever a VPN is mentioned it can be replaced with an internal network (WAN/LAN) link.
Why is this so difficult
Why is this so difficult ?
Why is it not possible to use a tape drive that is connected to a remote Windows server (with some kind of remote media agent, like exists for Linux) ?
And have this tape drive visible under the storage tab on your primary server, and use it for duplicate a backup job ?
