Backup Exec media server transfer 2003 to 2008 R2

Hello,

We currently have Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 installed on a Windows Server 2003 media server. I would like to transfer this installation to a new media server on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box, where I have installed an evaluation copy of Backup Exec 12.5 (to which the licences will be transfered over). I followed the plan laid out in the following support article "TECH37072" located here:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH37072

I am able to copy the media server configuration from the existing copy of Backup Exec in to a .cfg file using BeUtility, however when I come to apply this config file to the new media server (2008 R2) the screen freezes on "Apply copied media server configuration to media servers" with a progress of 0%. From here on it indefinately hangs, I recently allowed this to run over the weekend.

Are there any pre-requisites that need to be carried out before the config file can be applied?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Win 2008 R2 is not supported by BE 12.5. Only BE 2010 (now R3) supports 2008 R2 on the Media Server. 12.5 is OK with 2008 R2 on remote agents but not on the Core media server.

2008 R2 has Many internal changes that prevented us from supporting it (2008 R2 came out fall 2009 when 12.5 was already 1 year old)

Make sure you check the SCL (Software compatibility list for 12.5)
