backup exec monitoring
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 8 comments
Hi everyone,
I am sure many of us are managing more than one backup exec media server
Is there any simple way of monitoring the backup jobs status for all the servers
Has anyone implemented a solution for all monitoring and can be customised accordingly
example of info required
Time start , Time End , Status, Tape used , Data size.
i read about monitoring with WMI, SNMP but is there a simple solution for all of these.
thanks
:)
the centralized server also require you to log in to the centralized server.
is it easy to change the centralized server?

How about email
How about email notifications?
Centralize Server is the way to go
Basically you pick one of your Media Servers to be the central server, install the CSO on it and then point all the other ones to this server. You can then create and monitor all your jobs from this one server and never login to the other again. It is VERY easy to setup and you can copy your jobs from the other servers to the new Central server.
what if the Centralize backup
what if the Centralize backup server fail?
how easy is it to migrate to other server
i have a mixed environment of backing up ndmp device and windows server even remotely in offsite office
do it support all kind of backup?
This is a mission. .. I had

I had to hack out the name of the CASO server from affected servers, restart the Backup Exec services, and then readd the server.
We're currently implementing CASO and it's looking good...although the standard reports (same as in Backup Exec!) are terrible.
I keep my catalogs on the distributed server, but will be looking into replicating that to the CASO server in due course.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
haiz why cant they put a view
haiz why cant they put a view only mode by connecting to other backup exec server like remote to the console only
most of us do not need to change the job or erase tape or anything.
we just need to view whether the backup is successful or not
...then the easiest would be
...then the easiest would be to enable email notification on your servers, using a valid Exchange server. If there are multiple sites with a local Exchange server, use that one.
You can also log onto a particular server, and then connect to another server in the domain to do what you want too.

RE: Remote Monitoring
In other words, what we are asking for is a new ExecView, which disappeard with v10
this was a fairly common request on the STN Enhancements area, but nothing seems to be in the works from Symantec
If this response answers your concern, please mark it as a "solution"
how about implementing a iis
how about implementing a iis webpage to show the backup status for the servers
in that way we do not need to login to the server
