Backup Exec System Recovery and Exchange

I'm using Backup Exec System Recovery 8.52 Server Edition on a Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 and the documentation mentions using VSS to safely make backups of the exchange store. However, the documentation doesn't say anything about how to enable VSS and BESR to work together. I found the Shadow Copy setting under properties on the hard drives, but is that what needs to be configured? Or is it just some service that needs to be enabled?

The reason I ask is we have a domain server that whenever we restore it we have serious AD, and DNS issues and when I researched it I kept getting pointed to VSS but never saw a definitive answer. We've also had problems with the Exchange store when it is restored, so I figured I'd ask about that too... Any ideas?
