This issue has been solved. See solution.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me with a problem we are having on multiple servers.

Windows SBS 2003/2008 Servers

Backup Exec 2010 for SBS installed backing up Exchange using GRT, Data, System State, Shadow Copy Components.

This is configured using two policies.

Policy 1) Exchange Backup. One Full GRT enabled weekly and then an incremetal backup running daily.

Sent to a Backup to Disk Folder.

Policy 2) Data, System State and Shadow Copy Components. One Full Backup and then incremental backups running daily.

Exchange data excluded from D:\Program Files\ and going to a seperate Backup to Disk Folder.

Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 for SBS installed to create backup media incase the server fails and we need to get it running up quickly.

This is configured to create a Full recovery point every week and incremental backups from then onwards.

The problem:

The Exchange Policy in backup exec completes a full backup successfully however fails the incremental backups with the error:

The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft Exchange was not used to create the last full backup of this database.  You must use the Exchange Agent to run a full backup before you run a differential or incremental backup.

I have read that Backup Exec System Recovery may be the cause of the problem.

Is there anything I can to resolve this issue and get these backups running as expected?

Thank you in advanced for taking the time to respond to the issues I am experiancing.

Thank you,

Unfortunately every time you back the server up with BESR/SSR the next Exchange backup you run with BE will have to be a Full one othewise you will get that error.

I'd suggest running your BESR (DR backup) once a week and then follow that by an Exchange Full in BE, then do Incrementals as needed until you run your next BESR backup.

Obviously if this server also contains non-Exchange data then back that data up during the week as well.

However we have a server SBS 2008, it is currently working in that configuration described above?

Can you explain how this is working and other sites are not?

Thank you,
