This issue has been solved. See solution.

I need a solution to what I hope is a simple problem.  I'm no IT whiz by any means, I'm a video editor.  I've got an LTO tape which was created using backup exec 2010.  We have recently discontinued use of backup exec and are accessing the tapes with LTFS through Quantum.  However, I need to access the information on the old tape and therefore, needed to install backup exec.  However, it wants me to connect to a server which I do not have.  All I want to do is access the backup files on the tape and restore them.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You cannot install BE 2012 on a WIN 7 machine.  You need a server class machine, Server 2003 and up. See the SCL below

What if I do not have a server machine?  Is there another way to do it?  I believe our old archive system was running backup exec 2010 on XP.

No.  That is for BE 2010.  For BE 2012, you can only load it on server class machines, not work stations.  See the SCL below
