file system debug with bpbkar

Create empty file [install_path]\netbackup\path_to_tr
Create directory [install_path]\netbackup\logs\bpbkar
Increase VERBOSE level to 5

Run this command: d:\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\bpbkar32.exe -nocont  e:\  1> nul 2> nul

Use windows task manager to monitor when bpbkar32 exits and inspect the bpbkar debug log in [install_path]\netbackup\logs\bpbkar for possible hangs.  If bpbkar32 run fine for the entire file system you may need to increase CLIENT_READ_TIMEOUT.

To increase the CLIENT_READ_TIMEOUT on a Windows server, open the NetBackup Administration Console, and under "Host Properties", select Media Server.

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.
