Hi,

Turn on AOFO on the job and see if it happens again.

Thanks!

Craig, enabling default AOFO option by putting a checkmark next to it hangs my SQL server installed on that 2008 R2 and desktop connections to my database after 2-3 hours into the backup job......any suggestions?

You should not turn on AOF when you are backing up SQL databases.

database server on to a WD 3TB USB drive

If the drive is formatted to 4K sector size, then it is not supported because 4K blocksize is only supported by Windows 2012 which is currently not supported by BE.  If the blocksize is 4K, you would need to reformat it to 512.  See Colin Weaver's comment below

You are running the 512E emulation mode which should be o.k.  However, note this

Bytes Per Physical Sector :       <Not Supported>

I think you have not installed this hotfix on the machine.

Thanks! I tried to install this update earlier today and got a message that kb982018 is already installed on this computer......also when I try to download Advanced Format utility from WD website, after selecting my OS and the type of drive i.e. USB, i get this message:

Thank you for your interest in WD Align utility, WD Advanced Format Drives run optimally with Windows Vista and Windows 7. You do not need to run the WD align utility based upon your system selections.
See reference table on this page for more details.

any other suggestions?

You might want to consider using a 2TB disk.

...run b2dtest.exe against the drive to ensure it is suitable as a B2D target!
