Backup Job gives error, but completes...
Created: 04 Feb 2013 | 14 comments
I have been getting this error recently, but have not been able to resolve it.
The weird thing is that all the backup tasks are completed, but it still throws this error.

Does anyone know what is going on? It recently started doing this.

Hi
If this is exchange 2003 backup with GRT enable ,then please check below link and also verify if remote Agent on media Server is crashing
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168651
Hope that helps
Thanks

Ah sorry, it is Exchange 2010.
Hi
This was known issue in BE2010 r2 please check link below
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH152847
If you are on BE2010 R2 version please upgrade to BE2010 R3 first it is an free upgrade and will use same licenses and would be in place upgrade keeping all your job settings and configuration as it is.
BE 2010 R3 Installer -http://trialware.norton.com/files/fc/Backup_Exec_2010_13.0.5204_MultiPlatforms_Multilingual_DVD.iso
(Same can be used for SBS)
Hope that helps
Thanks

Thanks,
I will schedule the upgrade and report back.
Will I want to update the agents on the Servers also?
I found that I am already on R3, but am running updates on the Backup Exec now.
After you do your updates, you should push put the remote agents again.
Well,
I am upto date and it is still giving the same error.
Do I need to install that agent to get it to stop giving the error message?
We have the full version, not the SBS version.
Hi
Yes once you upgrade to BE 2010 r3 sp2 and all updates using live update then push install remote agent on remote server to update them too and once done check remote agent version on Media server and Remote Server to check they are matching & then try again
To check remote agent version you need to go C-program file- Symantec-Backup Exec- look for beremote.exe
Hope that helps
Thanks

Sorry, there is some confusion here.
Yesterday I pushed out the updated all the agents to the media servers (Nav, Exchange 2010 and a 2008 fileserver)
As per the error message "Symantec recommends that you install and use the Active Directory Recovery Agent to better manage your Microsoft Exchange data."
Should I install that agent?
If so, where do I go to install it?
Hi
This is only recommendation and it is your decision to install Active directory recovery agent and not an error or warning
Also this Agent is useful for doing individual restore of user in Active direcotry for example when particular user is deleted using this agent you can do a restore if you have done GRT backup of Domain controller
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168076
If you want to install the agent you can go tools-install options and licenses & then if you have license for Acitive Directory recvoery agent you can enter it or else you can also install in trialware to see how it works and later on you can decide to purchase it

Hope that helps

If it is just a suggestion, then why does it say my jobs fail?
I don't like having my jobs report that they fail, I have it set to email me in the event of a failure and so it always emails me.
Is there nothing we can do to stop this evil?
Hi
There is no way to stop this recommendation as said earlier it is recommendation and not an erorr ,you can post the entire job log here , Error always would be in red color and warning in orange color and the above recommendation which will be in job log will neither in red or orange color
Thanks

No, it appears in red, and says job failed
All the backup tasks in the list if I go through the log say completed.
But it gives me a big job failed message in the job history section with a cross mark through it.
Hi
The below mention is error
The one mention below it is recommendation so please ignore it
Thanks
