Backup of Lotus Notes files does not work
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 5 comments
Hello,
to start with, here is the actual System configuration:
Symantec Backup Exec 10d
Media Server: Version 10.1 Rev 5629
Administration Console: Version 10.1 Rev 5629
Installed Updates: Service Pack 4
OS: Windows 2000 SP3 5.00.2195
We had a problem with backing up Lotus notes *.ntf and *nsf files so Ive installed Backup Exec SP4.
It worked for a few days and then the problem started again. Now we have to reboot the server, and then everything is fine again.
Ive read something about modifying the registry but only for version 12 and later, so I think this is not a good idea...
Do you have any bugfix or some hints how to prevent it?
Thank you in advance,
Kind regards,
Martin

Backup of Lotus Notes files does not work
Hi Martin,
Do you use the Lotus Domino Agent?
What do you mean that it worked and then it stopped?
Can you post the job history of the failed job?
Can you also tell us what options do you use for the backup (full, incremental, Domino agent options)
Thanks,
Nikos

RE: Backup of Lotus Notes files does not work
is the remote agent still running on the Notes Server?

Hello,
error messages are like:
____
The item SRVRAPP01|D:\Lotus\Domino\Data\activity.ntf in use - skipped.
The item SRVRAPP01|D:\Lotus\Domino\Data\ancoma\appdir_templates\SEOGRUDOII.ntf in use - skipped.
The item D:\Lotus\Domino\Data\arcdocumentstore_mandate.nsf in use - skipped.
____
etc, etc... there are hundreds of files skipped like these (each of them).
@ nia: I am using the Lotus Domino agent
After installing the new SP it started to work (without the SP I was not able to use the Lotus domino agent).
The problem is that its working fine for some days, sometimes weeks, and then the same problem happens again - the files are not backed up and I get the messages mentioned above.
I can not find any regularity... The only thing which helps then is to make a server restart. Then its working again for some time...
I am using a full backup for the whole Backup configuration (Lotus, and other selections...)
@Ken - Im not really familiar with Notes, can you please describe me how to check this?
Thanks!
Kind regards,
Martin
Lotus Notes
Hi Martin,
You can check the Symantec services on the lotus notes to check if it is running.
Do you have enabled the AOF option on the Lotus Notes backup job?
Maybe this is the issue with the skipped files. If you do not have the AOFO enabled, the used mailboxes are skipped.
Check this and let us know.
