Hi All
we are implementing NBU for vmware. We will be using separate windows server as backup proxy host.
Please let me know all requirements for backup proxy host.
Can we use Windows 2008 R2 as its OS & what are the Hardware requirements of this host.
Please suggest

The VMWare backup Host needs to have a NetBackup Client installed (same version as Master Server) butr can also be a Media Server is you have one available.
It needs visibility of the VMWare datastore LUNS via fibre if you are to use that transport method.
To do restores via fibre the disks will need to be set as On-Line under disk manager
If you are to use de-dupe and this is not a Media Server you can use client side de-dupe by adding this client to the Master Server Host Properties - Client Attributes section and selecting to always use client side de-dupe.
Any other relvant info can be found in the VMWare Admin Guide but there is not really much else you need to know - just have a good network as it will have to pass the data back to a media server (unless it is one)
Hope this helps

Thanks for information..
I am using one virtual machine with WINDOWS 2008 as backup host.
Disk of thi server will be 50 GB.
RAM will be 4 GB.
One more query:
How to find which transfer type is being used for transfer of data b/w backup host and datastores in an existing enviroment ????
The transfer type may be specified in the snapshot options of the existing policy
If it is set to nbd then it goes over the network, if set to san it goes over the fibre (there are other types too but these are the most common)
If it is set to try any then you need to look at the details job status which should have a line in it saying the transport type used
Hope this helps

If I understand correctly your backup host is a VM?
If so, you will use 'hotadd' transport type.
Requirements are documented in NBU for VMware manual in this section:
Supporting Storage Foundation and VCS on Unix and Windows as well as NetBackup on Unix and Windows
