Backup restarts server
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 1 comment
I use Veritas 10.0 for backing up my server. i am quite new to this software and recently my backups have started to fail.
when i do either a manual or schedule backup it gives blue screen error and restarts the server. this happens frequently and i have not been able to backup my data
this are the things i have already done.
- have done a drivers update of the tape drive LTO ultrium 2
-fimwares and raid drivers also updated.
- i have even reinstalled the server. it stopped for three months and it recently started happening again.
- Changed the tape drive.
- the server is a IBM X236 server
- the tape drive is on a 7k raid card. Have also tested with SCSI card ultra 320. but same problem
Would really appreciate your help

It is not recommended to install the tape drive on a RAID controller.
Are you using OEM drivers or Veritas drivers?
Does the server restart systematically with every backup job ?
Try performing the backups to a "backup to disk folder" and see if the problem lies with the tape drive.
