Created: 02 Aug 2012 | 4 comments

I have a problem with BE when using BE to backup SQL 2008 R2 databases. I have 2 instances needed to backup, one instance can be choosen to backup, the other one cannot. The error display like this:

An error was encountered while attempting  to browse the contents of Microsoft SQL Server. A network connection to the server could not be establish.

Environment:

OS: windows 2008 R2

BE: 12.5 with SP4 and some hotfixes installed

SQL: 2008 R2

I am not an expert on SQL. Can someone helps me to solve this problem.

Thanks.

BE 12.5 does not support SQL 2008 R2.  See the SCL below

BE 12.5 Software (SCL)

You need at least BE 2010 R2 or R3, or BE 2012 to back up SQL 2008 R2.

BE 2010|2010 R2|2010 R3 Software (SCL)

As I say, I have 2 instances to backup, I can choose one instance in the selection list, but the other one cannot.

When a product is not supported, if you managed to get it to work, you are lucky.  Otherwise, you are on your own.  You cannot log a support case with Symantec.
