This issue has been solved. See solution.

I'm using Backup Exec 2012 to backup databases on a  SQL 2008 R2 server running Windows 2008 R2. The database is in constant use and we have had reports that the database locks up during this time. The lock may only last a minute or so but it is causing some issues.

The backup is set to do a Full database backup every evening with Consistency check before backup set to "Physical check ony"

Is it normal for the database to lock during the backup?

Cheers

Hi,

No, it wouldn't lock the database. It would use VSS to snapshot the SQL database while live, and not stop anything.

Thanks!
