Backup up SQL Server on member server protected by firewall

Created: 07 Feb 2013 | 6 comments

Hi

I have a network with an SBS 2011 Standard server running backup exec 2012 SBE.

I also have a member server running server 2008 and sql server.

I have bought the agent to be able to backup the sql server.

The Sql server is protected internally by a hardware firewall and i need to know what ports to forward to allow backup exec to install and backup the server.

thanks

Tim

I have added all the ports mentioned in the document but still get:

Error connecting to the remote computer. Ensure that the computer is available, has WMI enabled and is not blocked by a firewall. 1603

When you say agent, are you talking about RAWS or the Agent for Applications and Databases licences to backup SQL databases?  If it is the latter, I don't know how you are going to add this agent to BE SBE edition.  It does not allow you to add any Agent for Applications and Databases licences.  See page 3 of the licencing guide below

I assume i need to alter the firewall to allow DCOM through it, but i also need to adjust the server to make sure DCOM only uses a few defined ports.  Which server do i adjust the sql server or the main server.

I have the RAWS for databases.

thanks

I have the RAWS for databases.

I hope that you are aware that you would not be able to backup .mdf and .ldf files using a normal backup.  They are automatically excluded by AFE.
