BackupExec 2010 R3 SP3 support for Exchange 2013 service account permissions

Created: 01 Aug 2013 • Updated: 01 Aug 2013 | 9 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

So I just applied SP3 on my 2008R2 BackupExec server and was able to get the remote agent install on all of my Windows 2012 machines. These are now backing up with no issues. The problem I am facing is I don't see my Exchange database in the selection list for my remote agent. That machine is Server 2012 with Exchange 2013 installed. I have the correct license. I do see many articles relating to permissions so my thought (and my preferred method) is to create a service account. Only issue is I cannot find the permission requirements for 2012 Server & Exchange 2013, can someone help?

Hello damadhatter,

you can use the following article and add the acount to organization management role in exchange 2013

apart from this you need logon account to be member of domain admins and administrators group...

after giving the rights if you are still not able to see the information store could you please check what type of license are installed eg. maintance

Thanks for the quick reply, I know how to add permissions I just wasn't sure if the Organization Management role (similar to EX2010) was what I needed to added. I have the account setup per Symantec's best practices. As for the Agent its "Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server"

Try removing the license for "agent for applications and databases" from the media server and restart services... reinstall the license and then attempt to browse and view the db's
