Backupexec 2010 VMware VCB Backups

Created: 02 Apr 2010 • Updated: 04 Oct 2010 | 1 comment

I just upgraded to BackupExec 2010, and i noticing that my VCB backups are not using the VCB Proxy staging disk anymore.

I have SAN mode selected, and I can see the traffic travesing the SAN interface, but I cannot find the temporary exported vmdk like in BackupExec 12.5

Did Backupexec 2010 eliminate the requirement for a VCB staging disk during backup operations?  If so that is awesome, but I cannot seem to find any official documentation of this.

I did notice that Backupexec 2010 now supports SAN based restores of VM guest, which in previous versions was not available.  All restores were over the LAN.

VCB is no longer needed as ESX3.5 U2 and vsphere4 got rid of VCB in favor of vStorage API's.
BE2010 fully leverages vStorage API's in the new iterations of VMware.

SAN based restores was an enhancement with vStorage API's.

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
