Are you using Backup Exec

Are you using Backup Exec 13.0.2896 SP1  (Backup Exec 2010 Sp1)

or Backup  Exec 13.0.4164 SP1 (Backup Exec 2010 R2 SP1)

If the former I would suggest you upgrade to the R2 version as we have fixed AVVI probelms in R2 that will not be resolved in the previous release. Also make sure Hotfix 146674 is installed over SP1 (taking care with the manual steps required after install http:www.symantec.com/docs/TECH147674 )

Note that Hotfix may not affect your actual problem but as it does affect AVVI is strongly recommended.

I can see that you are restoring directly back to an ESX host - was the backup also done directly from an ESX host - or was a vCenter server involved?

Was the Virtual machine originally created with Disks (vmdk files) in different datastores?

Hi Im using Backup Exec 2010

Hi

Im using Backup Exec 2010 R2 rev 13.0.4164. Here is list of updates:

SP1, Hotfix 150096, 144101, 148347, 153090, 147674. Backup was directly from/to ESX host. When I try same ESX host than no problem with restore. With restore to another  ESX host we have always error message about wrong data file

Originally vmdk files (datastore 1 and 2), Restore ESX host datastore 1

Which transport mode is used?

Which transport mode is used? SAN or NBD?

If using SAN, please try using NBD, to see what happens.

Please also make sure, that the backup account has "Full Administraor" permissions in the vCenter. (not in the Windows system, in vcenter itself)

If the backup is created with

If the backup is created with an ISO mounted, you will need to add the following key to the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\SymVmTools\

Dword: SymVmToolsIgnoreDevicesWithAttachedFiles

Value: 1
