Backups are failing for a HP-UX(11.31) and (ia64) host
Hi ,
We are trying to backup a HPUX(11.31) client and the backups are continously failing. We have a Linux Master Server and the Version of Netbackup is 6.5.5. While analysing the bpbkar logs in the client found the following error:

Have a look at this TN:
Have a look at this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59146
The TN title and problem description is a bit misleading - it is not related to the filesystem, but rather a problem with the NIC drivers.
Issue:
On a NetBackup client on an HP-UX 11.23 system, backing up large mounts of data from a JFS filesystem (Standard policy type), and using a Gigabit Ethernet interface network card, problems have been seen where these backups fail with status codes 63 (process was killed by a signal) or 130 (system error occurred) reported.
Testing bpbkar by backing up the failing file system with the -nocont switch to /dev/null is successful. Running smaller backups from the same failing filesystems run successfully. This indicates that the problem relates to the Gigabit network interface.
Solution:
Apply the latest HP-UX 11.23 Gigabit Ethernet interface patch, which includes the latest drivers.
At the time this TechNote was published, the most recent patch was PHNE_37324.
Supporting Storage Foundation and VCS on Unix and Windows as well as NetBackup on Unix and Windows.

VXVM 5 extended attribites
This look to me like the VXVM 5.x extended attributes issue. Try to add
IGNORE_XATTR = YES
to bp.conf and re-try the backup.
Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.
If this post solved you’re questions please send a gratitude by marking it as a solution.
