Make sure there are no errors with your vss writers.  You can check the bpbkar log on the client.  If that is the case, resolve what is going on with your writers.  Look for something like "FS_WRITER_METADATA_FAILURE"

On a Windows 2003 Client server; the backups of the "Shadow Copy Components" fail with Status Code 71 (none of the files in the file list exist) errors. There are no errors received backing up the file system on the same server.

Windows 2003 server Shadow Copy Component backup ends in an EXIT STATUS 71: none of the files in the file list exist.
