Asset Management Suite

My organization is currently using Motorola Symbol Integrated Handheld scanners for use with Altiris Barcode Solution.  The scanners we have are getting old and are up for replacement.  We have reviewed the list of Integrated devices on Symantec's list, but wanted to find out if anyone had any suggestions or feedback on any of the models listed.  We are using the scanners primarily for receiving and annual physical inventory, but may expand the use if we can get a scanner that performs a bit better than the model we are currently using.

Could you please let us know if you are using Barcode Solution and which scanner you are using in your environment?

I'll tell you, I really like using Barcode Essentials from Basis Design (http://www.barcodeessentials.com) on my iPhone. Each license is $300 and works wth a bluetooth Socket mobile handheld scanner (7ci) (about $225-$300). If you already have iOS devices then you'd be looking at $500 each which is about 1/3 the cost of the large Motorolas (we have 3 of those and stopped using them). The nice thing is, in a pinch, you can even use the camera on the iOS device if you don't have the scanner with you so you can do inventory at any time.

We have 3-4 licenses for Barcode Essentials, a few Socket scanners and then a couple of iPhones and a couple of iPod Touches that we do inventory with as/when needed.

Thanks for the feedback.  We have actually tested Barcode Essentials in our environment and it was determined that we would not be proceeding with implementing it for various reasons.

Barcode Essentials is very nice in the test s that I did 

also symantec has always been behind on devices by 1-2 years - Try using usb Wedge Barcode scanners - easier to setup with a laptop and less support issues
