  • 1.  Basic connection between Deployment sever with Deployment Linux agent

This is the first time I am using the Symantec Altiris Deployment Solution.

I download and installed the trialware Dell_3_2 MR2 deployment solution and also installed the SQL 2008 database on a Windows server 2008 R2 server. I launched the deployment console (version 6.9 SP5). Then I downloaded and installed a Dell server with Linux deployment agent (altiris-adlagent-2.6-86.x86_64.bin) and modified the Adlagent.conf and started the deployment agent. I used the IP address and ping them both correctly.

Unfortunately, the Linux server never shown on the deployment console. Did the client ever connected to the deployment server? I most missed something?

I tried to look for more information at the Linux client and the directory under altiris only shown deployment only. I can not find any log file or anything else to helpme to debug. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Please review pages 38 & 39 of "Altiris™ Deployment Solution 6.9 SP5 from Symantec User Guide" (http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3961), as they cover the exact steps required to install the adlagent.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did follow the step-by-step instruction to install the Linux agent onto the client server twice but the deployment console were not able to show the new managed computer. I did try to enter the new computer from the deployment console directly, but it always shown a greyout compuet icon before the name. I don't believe the deployment server is actively managing the newly defined the computer. Do I need to setup anything else at the client side?

Does the Linux machine have a firewall that is blocking the adlagent?

Does the DS successfully manage Windows machines?

Thank you for helping. I don't have the firewall setup on either the Linux server or the deployment server.

By the way my Linux server is a Dell R720, colud that be the problem for Deployment Solution 6.9 SP5? The list for the supporting server didn't include R720.

I don't have a Windows client at this point.

My problem was resoved.  My Linux server was using RedHat6.5 which was not listed as support OSs for DS 6.9 SP5. I reload the OS with Redhat 5.10 and the server did show on the deployment console.I can move on now.

    Thanks!
