BE 12 and 2012 Licensing

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have server a that has BE 12 installed.  Maintenance licenses have been purchased for BE 2012.  These were intended to work in conjuction with the existing licenses.  The new licenses will not install on the existing installation.  Will I need to upgrade the existing installation first?  Or do we need to exchange or purchase different licensing?

In order to use the BE 2012 maintenance licence, you need to upgrade your BE 12 to BE 2012.  I would suggest that

1) you contact the Symantec Licensing department to get your licence keys for BE 2012 before doing any upgrading.

2) You need to upgrade your BE 12 to either BE 12.5 or BE 2010 before you can upgrade to BE 2012. You can download BE 2012 here

http://trialware.norton.com/files/fc/Backup_Exec_2...

Alternatively, you can do a fresh install of BE 2012.

3) be aware that BE 2012 is quite different from previous versions of BE.  You might want to read my article first

For the fresh install, how do I retrieve the licenses from the previous installation?  I tried entering the license keys that I retrieved from the console but the BE 2012 installation wouldn't accept them.  I did notice that the keys from v12 were all numbers, and the serials for 2012 started with a letter.

The keys for BE 12 cannot be used for BE 2012 which is why I said earlier that you need to contact the Symantec Licensing department to get a new set of keys for BE 2012.  Even if you do an upgrade, you would still need a new set of keys.
