BE 12 hangs up while trying to backup or restore

Hi there everyone
Today I needed to restore a file. I startet BE 12 ant klicked on the tab "restore". I've seen the window thats supposed to pop up for about half a second but then it was gone. After that BE is not responding to anything.
I tried it again and BE just hangs up after clicking on "backup" or "restore". Everything else is working just fine. It tried to restart the services but it didn't help. I cannot start our server because there are a lot of people working on it.

Hi mitti2000,
First off, make sure your BEWS is patched with the latest patches and service packs available. Something there might address your problem.
Next up...what are you trying to restore? Exchange? SQL? Normal files? And where too?

Also have a look if you see any error in windows event logs .You can try reppairing backup Exec from add/remove program

Sorry that I didn't mention that. I want to restore normal files to the same harddisk. but i don't think that matters because it hangs up before i can choose what file i wnat to restore.
i'm going to try doing the updates and stuff. hopefully it will work
