This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi Everyone,

I've got Several questions regarding backing up my vSphere 4 (ESXi 4 hosts),

it consist of:

ESXi01 - 03 (ESXi host name)
vCenter - vCenter Mgmt Server
BackupServer01 - BE 2010 Media server Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (In order to use the new Deduplication feature of BE 2010, I've installed it on 64 bit Windows Server)
This is where the Backup-to-RemovableDisk is used to store the VM backup.

cmiiw,

1. in this case i need to get one BE AVVI (VMWare Agent) license for my vCenter and one Dedupe option ?
2. Is it true that the new Backup Exec 2010 is using vStorage API to make the backup faster (previously I tried BE 12.5 AVVI, it runs very slow using VCB method). ?

But from the screenshot below I could not set the Deduplication option or vStorage option ? am I missing something here ?

Any kind of response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Albert, to answer your

Hi Albert,

to answer your questions, see the below:

1. in this case i need to get one BE AVVI (VMWare Agent) license for my vCenter and one Dedupe option ?

Yes you'll need one for each, the new BE 2010 data deduplication is a separate license as this technology is new from PureDisk

2. Is it true that the new Backup Exec 2010 is using vStorage API to make the backup faster (previously I tried BE 12.5 AVVI, it runs very slow using VCB method). ?

Yes the new BE 2010 and 2010 R2 can now utilize the vStorage API therefore the backup can be done much faster with Change block tracking and data deduplication feature.

moreover VCB will be declared obsolete according to VMware.
