BE 2010 - Running slow
Created: 24 Nov 2010 | 8 comments
I am having backups take 12+ hours, that used to take 3. I have restarted the server several times and checked the settings best I could to no avail.
I seem to have the latest software altho the Symantec update could do a better job of confirming this. If I use LIVE UPDATE it says I am up to date. If I try to look at the LOOK AT AVAILABLE UPDATES from the help menu, it goes to the Symantec web site, but appears to be lost as it doesnt find antyhing.

What are the settings for Block Size, Buffer Size and Number of Buffers?
Also make sure that the Single Block options are NOT enabled

Block Size 64k
Buffer Size 64k
Buffer Count 10
Hi Water Count 0
The WRITE SINGLE BLOCK option is checked. All others are blank.
De-select the single block option. This completely bypassess all buffering and (IMHO)should only be selected when directed by Tech Support as part of troubleshooting

What is the version of BE that you are using? If it is an old version, the built-in URL for LiveUpdate may be out-dated.
Im using V13 of Backup Exec 2010.
We use a dell tape library. It shows in my BE as an IBM device. How do I update the drivers? Am I updating for the SCSI card, or the tape drive? I have recreated the job with no luck.
