This issue has been solved. See solution.

We are a meduim size comapny that runs 4 hyper-v hosts.  The VHDs are stored locally on each server.  Some of these VHDs i don't need GRT level backups for.  Do i need o create separate backups for GRT and NON-GRT guests?  Also when shoudl i bakcup the host NON-GRT or GRT?  Thanks.

Ideally, I would sugest to perform GRT backups for all the Virtual Machines. As this is a single pass backup of the Server, you get the ability to restore individual items with the same backup.

You would need to create a non GRT backup of VMs that are running unsupported Windows or Non Windows OS as GRT is not possible there. In extreme cases, if you cant push the remote agent on a VM for some reason, that would also be included in non GRT backup.
