This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi there,

we are running a new Library with LTO-6 Tape Drives from HP.

The storage tab in BE2012 says there is no compression. (1:1)

A drive test directly with a troubleshooting tool from HP gave me a compression ration from 2,61:1.

The compression in BE2012 is activated but not working...

How can i solve this issue?

In my opinion there is a problem with the Symantec Tape Device driver? Is LTO-6 fully supported?

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers,

Sebastian

Hi,

LTO6 is supported on the HCL.

Make sure you're using the latest Symantec drivers for the device.

Matter of interest, but what OS is BE running on?

Thanks!

Open the job log & see if a compression ratio is mentioned or not. If you see a compression ratio apart from 1:1 in the job log, then ensure Backup Exec is fully patched with all updates.

Additionally, have you chosen the option - "Hardware if available, else software" or a different option?

It could be that the data that you are compressing is already compressed.  See my article on this subject

To test whether your hardware compression is working, create a directory and fill it with text files only.  Do a backup to tape and select the hardware compression option in your job.  You should get some compression if the hardware compression is working.
