BE does not load the driver for a Compaq TSL-9000L (autoloader)

BE loads driver TSL-9000 for my internal 12/24 TSL-9000L (autoloader). I had this drive working on a Win2000 server running BE 8 without an issue. Upgraded new server to 2003 and BE 10.5520 SP1 using drivers #48 and now it does not. I have tried MS drivers and still does not work, can not find compaq drivers. Drive shows in BE but when I run an inventory it completes 100% but drive does not operate. I replaced the autoloader with a single DLT drive and everything worked (erased, ejected tape) so I know it has to be the driver. Should the autoloader drive be listed under stand-alone or library, mine is under stand-alone. Windows 2003 sees the drive as a Compaq dds 3 autoloader correctly. Removable storage under services is disabled. Hope someone can help, thanks

Hello,
- Despite being an autoloader if the device is listed under standalone in Backup Exec, means that BE does not see the changer. please check what drivers are installed for the changer. If it says compaq uninstall them. the changer will appear as 'unknown changer'
- Do you have another device connected to the same Backup Exec server if so is that an autoloader or library?

In Windows 2003 or in BE there is not a separate line item listed for the changer. Only a compaq 1 under stand-alone. In Window 2003 under tape storage it is listed as "Compaq DDS 3 tape drive (autoloader)". A TSL-9000L is an all in one autoloader it is not two separate pieces of hardware, this is the only storage unit installed in the server. When I look at the driver list for MS they have a 12/24 DDS autoloader listed, but it did not seem to make a difference. BE only list a TSL-9000 without the L. The part number on the drive is TSL-9000L.

Hello,

It seems the TSL- 9000 is tested with backup exec 10.0 as per the HCL: http://support.veritas.com/docs/274348

When you say that the drive does not work, what exactly happens? Could you elaborate the problem? Is the device seen as offline or does it cause the backup jobs to fail? Do you get any errors in the alerts tab? Are there any erroes in the Windows event logs?

Revert with details to the above questions.

Hello, This is about everything I know:

Boot UP: Tape Drive SCSI Port 1 SCSI ID 6

Windows Device Manager: List Compaq DDS3 12/24GB Autoloader (drive)

Driver: Compaq TSL-9000 Veritas, dated 11/11/04, ver 5.1.1.1

RSM - disabled

BE: drive is listed as compaq 1 under standalone drive. drive is listed as compaq 1 status is ready, vendor is compaq, prod id is 12/24gb dat 8 AL, firmware is 2.16....

Windows event viewer: warning source:mssql$bkupexec category 8, event id 19011, supersocket info:(spinregister) error 1355.

When I run an inventory on compaq 1 drive it completes 100% but in the log it gives me a 458 error no media in drive. Slot #0, slot count 1.

When I run a backup it keeps prompting me to insert media, alert says no media in drive.

I installed the autoloader back in my win2000 server running BE 8.0 and the dive worked as it always did in that server, but unlike 10. the drive is listed under changer not stand alone as in BE 10. Since I have not been able to get the autoloader drive working I installed a dlt2000 (not an autoloader) in it's place as a test and it backs up fine.So I know the software works, the controller accepts a tape drive, scsi cable works.

Questions:
Should the drive be listed under "Stand-Alone"?
Why is changer under the device tree not listed as in version 8?

Hope this helps with solving the issue.

There are no medium changers listed in Windows device manager, even when I change the view to show hidden non-pnp it does not have scsi changer listed.
