This issue has been solved. See solution.

1. How long is the trialware good for??

2. WILL Symantec release BESR 2010 within the next 30-60 days?? I don't want the trialware to expire.

3. Regarding the GRO option,  I understand that the readme says that Outlook 2003 or 2007 must be installed onto the Exchange 2003 server. Can GRO function without Outlook 2003 installed??

4. For using GRO, what does this mean?? "Outlook 2003 or 2007 must be configured to support message forwarding."
Is there some special setting for this within Outlook 2003??
Is this the same as clicking the 'Forward' button on an email message??

Thank you, Tom

TomMLS, 1. The trial lasts

TomMLS,

1. The trial lasts for 60 days
2. BESR 2010 was released on 2nd November
3. In order to recover Exchange items, you must have Outlook installed. Note: this does not have to be on the Exchange server itself. You can recover items using GRO from any machine where GRO/Outlook are installed.
4. "Outlook 2003 or 2007 must be configured to support message forwarding." - where did you see this quote?

As per admin guide:

To return the email message to the user, do one of the following:
■ If you have Microsoft Outlook installed, double-click the message to open
it in Outlook. You can use Outlook to send the message back to its owner.
Using the Backup Exec System Recovery Granular Restore Option 215
About restoring Exchange mail
■ To forward the message in Outlook, right-click the message, and then
click Forward.
Outlook opens a new message. The message that you want to forward is
included as an attachment. You can then forward the message to the
original owner.

The quote I gave comes from

The quote I gave comes from the readme enclosed with the trialware. Here is the full quote.

Can anyone tell me when I can expect to receive our upgrade notification email??

I have not yet received an upgrade notification email for either Server or Desktop, and we just recently renewed Desktop.

General issues

  • For Granular Restore Option to have full functionality, you must install Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007 on the server that is running the Granular Restore Option console. Also, Outlook 2003 or 2007 must be configured to support message forwarding.

Thank you, Tom

TomMLS, I have received

TomMLS,

I have received confirmation that there are no specific configuration settings that are required for Outlook. I suspect that statement will be removed from future readme files.

At this time, BESR 2010 is only available as a new purchase of licenses

The upgrades to BESR 2010 for customers who are running prior versions with a support contract in effect at the release date of BESR 2010, Nov. 2nd, have not yet been released.

We are working to get the upgrades released as soon as possible.

The Trialware for BESR 2010 can be downloaded and it will run for 60 days in the interim

Upgrade 8.5.5 to 2010 confirmed

Hi All,

It is confirmed that Symantec has done a great job in BESR 2010, I've just upgraded my BESR 8.5.5 into 2010 and it works, since I still ahve my maintenance license I can get the files from the Fileconnect website and then get the serial from licensing portal.

Upgrade went smooth and no issue encountered.

Cheers.
